SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit

The SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit is a specialist kit for use on cracked, split and leaking cast iron pipework where there is no pressure. It enables permanent repair in under 30 minutes to drain, waste, soil and supply pipes between 32mm and 150mm, matching standard cast iron pipe diameters.

It follows the same format as a SylWrap Standard Pipe Repair Kit, but contains additional CrackSeal Sealant for making faster, easier repairs to longitudinal cracks and splits in cast iron.

Repairs are pressure resistant to 30 bar and temperature resistant to 200ºC. The Kit enables effective repairs to be made around elbow joints, tee joints and around sections of difficult-to-access pipes in confined spaces. It offers a flexible alternative to heavy, bulky pipe repair clamps.

No operational training is required before using the Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit – simply follow the straightforward instructions provided. Repairs can be made to both domestic and industrial pipework in exterior or interior settings at a fraction of the cost of pipe replacement.

SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit details

The Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit contains Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty Stick, CrackSeal Sealant and SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage.

Superfast Steel is used to seal the small holes and cracks. The required amount of putty is mixed by hand until it turns a uniform colour. It is then pushed into the hole or crack, where it will harden in around 5-10 minutes to fill the damage with a watertight material.

CrackSeal Sealant seals longer cracks and splits in cast iron pipework. Using a standard sealant applicator gun (not provided as part of the Kit), it is extruded directly into the crack until fully filled. CrackSeal sets almost instantly, even on wet surfaces.

Once the crack has been sealed, the repair is completed by overwrapping with SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage. SylWrap is a fibreglass repair wrap with a water-activated resin.

When wrapped and smoothed over the pipe, it will set rock-hard to provide an impact resistant, protective layer over the initial sealant for a permanent, reinforced repair.

Superfast Steel and SylWrap HD both have WRAS Approval, meaning they are certified as safe to use on pipes carrying drink water. CrackSeal does not have WRAS Approval and cannot be used with potable water.

Repair of 450mm long crack in cast iron pipe

Demonstration video filmed at Sylmasta HQ showing CrackSeal and SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage permanently sealing a cracked cast iron pipe in under 15 minutes.

A 450mm long split was cut into the pipe. After surface preparation, CrackSeal was extruded directly into the crack before overwrapping with SylWrap HD for added protection and reinforcement.

Following the repair, a bucket of water was poured into the pipe. The water was easily contained, showcasing the strength of the repair.
