Metal Bond Rapid 5 Minute Epoxy Adhesive Details

When bonding parts together using Metal Bond Rapid 5 Minute, surfaces must be clean, dry and free from all traces of dust, grease, oil and other materials. To improve bond strength, both surfaces can be lightly abraded prior to the application of epoxy adhesive.

To use Metal Bond, snap off the nozzle tip on the syringe and remove the cap from between the piston rods. Extrude the required amount of epoxy and then mix the two components together using a stirrer for about 30 seconds until an even mix is achieved.

The mixed epoxy is applied to one surface, after which the two surfaces requiring bonding are pressed or clamped together. Sylmasta Metal Bond sets in 3 to 5 minutes at 20°C. It should be left undisturbed for a handling time of 30 minutes. A full cure is achieved within 4 to 6 hours.

When using Metal Bond as a filler, the epoxy adhesive is applied into gaps and cracks where it will cure to seal the hole in less than 5 minutes.

Once Metal Bond Epoxy has been applied, the cap should be placed on part-used cartridges for re-use of the epoxy at a later date. Under the correct conditions, Metal Bond 5 Minute has a shelf life of two years from the date of manufacture.
