Liquid Metal Rapid 5 Minute is a pourable liquid rubber with a fast 5-minute work time for applications where a quick turnaround is required. It cures to form a tough, flexible, rubber-like compound. It is cast into moulds to create new or replacement rubber parts, and used as a high-performance, non-corrosive electrical encapsulant.
It is easily applied and bonds to metal, rubber, concrete, fibreglass, wood and many other materials. Coating a surface with Liquid Rubber Rapid protects against corrosion, wear, abrasion and vibration. Its vibration-resistant properties mean it reduces noise when used to line equipment.
When poured into a mould, Liquid Rubber Rapid creates highly accurate copies of existing parts, including rubber shaft couplings, seals, gaskets and elastic supports.
It can be brush applied to repair damaged and worn rubber equipment, such as treads and conveyor belts. Encapsulating sensitive instruments and electrical equipment with Liquid Rubber 80 protects against mechanical and moisture ingress. It is flame retardant.
A 5-minute pot life and light handing time of two hours reduces equipment downtime and enables the rapid casting of parts. Thanks to its unique formulation, Liquid Rubber Rapid has none of the problems usually associated with filled PU systems, such as sedimentation and moisture sensitivity.
It is low in viscosity, resulting in a resin system with excellent adhesion properties and low stress thermal cycling characteristics, whilst still retaining the flow properties necessary to fill intricate units.
About
Liquid Rubber Rapid 5 Minute Details
Surface preparation is required before application. Full instructions detailing the preparation for specific substrates are provided with the product. A primer should be used for best results and maximum adhesion.
Part A and Part B are mixed together in equal measures by volume or weight. To ease the mixing process, the Part A container has enough room to dispense all Part B into, enabling it to be applied with a brush straight from the container.
When creating new parts or replacement components, a mould must be taken of the original. Liquid Rubber Rapid is poured into the mould, where it will cure to form an exact copy of the original.
To repair worn and damaged rubber parts, Liquid Rubber Rapid is poured into holes and tears to a thickness of at least 3mm to provide sufficient strength. It will cure to seamlessly fill the damage with a new rubber surface.
For lining applications and noise reduction, it is applied via brush to surfaces to a thickness of at least 1.5mm. Applying multiple layers will build up a thicker, longer lasting, more resistant coating. The re-coat time of Liquid Rubber Rapid is 60 minutes.
Equipment can be put back into light service after two hours. A functional cure is achieved in 24 hours and ultimate hardness reached in seven days. Once cured, the repair can be ground flush.
For a slower setting version, please see Liquid Rubber 80. It comes with a 20-minute pot life, enabling greater quantities to be applied at once and more careful application without the threat of premature curing in complex repairs.
