SylShield Pipe Weld & Protection Wrap
SylShield Pipe & Weld Protection Wrap is a water-activated fibreglass composite wrap with extreme thickness. It is designed to protect pipelines and welds which are subjected to intense installation processes or operate in highly abrasive environments from impact damage.
It is three times as thick as a standard SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage, providing a much more robust outer protective shell around joints and welds when applied prior to trenchless pipeline installation.
Wrapping a pipe in SylShield prevents the damage and scarring caused by processes such as horizontal directional drilling, auger boring, impact moling and microtunnelling, avoiding the need for pipeline repairs after pull back.
In abrasive and harsh environments such as mines, quarries, and onshore and offshore pipelines, SylShield provides better protection than other composite wraps because of its thickness.
This thickness also allowed layers of protection to be built more quickly with less wrapping required. SylShield is effective on pipes made of steel, stainless steel, copper, malleable iron, GRP, ceramic, most plastics, clay, concrete, rubber, and lead.
The fast-working resin infused in SylShield has a work time of between 2–5 minutes, allowing rapid application. SylShield also protects against corrosion, chemical attack, and increases pressure resistance and hoop strength.
SylShield Pipe Weld & Protection Wrap Details
SylShield can can be applied directly over the outer surface of pipes, joints and welds. It can also be wrapped over anti-corrosion coatings, brushable epoxies, shrink sleeves and protective tapes to enhance protection levels.
It is easy-to-use. Water activates the resin and the bandage is then wrapped and smoothed around the pipe, using additional water where necessary.
Compression film can be applied over SylShield whilst curing to improve lamination. Any compression film should be perforated after application to allow SylShield to degas as it cures.
SylShield will begin to harden in around 2-5 minutes depending upon temperature. Repairs can be completed in under 30 minutes, a functional cure achieved in 45 minutes and maximum properties reached in 24 hours.
